And so it tells us that, I think that if you have faster than light travel, there's something really crazy that has to be true on a cultural, political, social level. And there may be other solutions, but I'll give you my two.

One of them is that you need complete totalitarian controls. And it is like, it is the people, the individuals, they might be, might not be perfect, they might be demons, doesn't matter. But you have a demonic, totalitarian control of your society where it's like you have, you have like parapsychological mind meld with everybody, and no one can act independently of anybody else. No one can ever launch a warp drive weapon. And everybody who has that ability isn't like a mind meld link with everybody else or something. Something like that. You can't have libertarian, individualistic free agency.

And then I think the other version, socially and culturally, is they have to be like perfectly altruistic non self interest. They have to be angels. And so the Pasulka literal thing I'd come to is the aliens. It's not that they might be demons or angels. They must be demons or angels. If you have faster than light travel and I, both of those seem pretty crazy to me.

그래서 제 생각에는, 초광속 여행(FTL)이 가능하다면 문화적, 정치적, 사회적 수준에서 반드시 실현되어야만 하는 아주 파격적인 전제가 있다고 봅니다. 다른 해결책이 있을 수도 있겠지만, 저는 두 가지를 제시하고 싶네요.

하나는 완전한 전체주의적 통제입니다. 구성원 개개인이 완벽하든 아니든, 혹은 그들이 악마 같은 존재든 상관없습니다. 다만 사회 전체가 악마적일 만큼 철저한 전체주의적 통제하에 있어야 한다는 거죠. 예를 들어, 모든 사람과 초심리학적인 정신 공유(mind meld)가 이루어져서 그 누구도 타인과 독립적으로 행동할 수 없는 상태 같은 겁니다. 그 누구도 독단적으로 워프 드라이브를 무기화해 발사할 수 없도록 말이죠. 그런 능력을 가진 모든 이가 서로 정신적으로 연결되어 있거나 하는 식이 되어야 합니다. 즉, 자유지상주의적이거나 개인주의적인 자유 의지는 존재할 수 없다는 뜻입니다.

그리고 사회 문화적인 관점에서의 또 다른 버전은, 그들이 완벽하게 이타적이고 사욕이 없는 존재여야 한다는 겁니다. 말 그대로 '천사'가 되어야 하죠. 그래서 제가 도달한 다이애나 파술카(Diana Pasulka)식의 문자 그대로의 결론은 이렇습니다. 외계인이 악마일 수도 있고 천사일 수도 있는 게 아니라, 그들은 반드시 악마이거나 천사여야만 한다는 것입니다. 초광속 여행 기술을 보유하고 있다면 말이죠. 그런데 제게는 이 두 가지 가능성 모두 상당히 비현실적으로 느껴지네요.
